"Abandonment"

HEY KIDDOS!
This piece I am sharing with you is something that has been a work in progress for over a year now because I started it before I had taken a year off from the studio. When I returned to my work, I finished it with a few trials. IMG_0060.JPG

Through the beginning of the sculpture from over a year ago, to reconstruction and finishing, then to the drying process where cracking occur, and finally repair and final drying. I have decided to title this work “Abandonment” because it has taught be a valuable lesson on not abandoning what you love. It is hard to find the time sometimes when life is full of many commitments and responsibilities. Some how, some way, time is found. Don’t abandon creativity.

HEY KIDDOS!
First off, I want to apologize for the lack of postings on this page. For anyone who is reading and may not know, my family have experienced a couple loses recently so I have been out of the studio for a couple weeks. I am just getting back into my work and wanted to share a couple projects I am working on.

Below are photos of the ear tile project I have been working on. Ears have always interested me because when I first started sculpting it was the most challenging aspect I had to overcome. My sister, Kallie, always says, “If you can sculpt an ear like that, you can make anything.” Since overcoming that challenge I wanted to make it a focal point of a series.

Again, I want to thank the folks who sent me photos so I can have different ears to sculpt!

Top left photo was sent to me from my friend Amanda of her husband Jason’s ear. The other photos are of the progress of his ear.

My intentions for this project is to make a massive wall installation of all the tiles together. I have a few more images to work from, but I always need more.

Thanks for stopping by! And there are more blogs to come about other things I am working on. To get quicker views of my work I am always posting, follow me on Instagram: @ruthiejeankahl, Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ruthiejeankahl?ref=tn_tnmn or Twitter: @ruthiejeankahl.
